While we were messing around with our Hostinger India test site, we realized that these guys actually produced pretty fast response times when pinged from India! We did some comparisons and tested Hostinger against the other web hosts, and concluded that these ingenious Lithuanians deserve to be on the top spot in this list.

Because the server is located in Singapore, we expected Hostinger to produce pretty fast results in the Asian region, and they didn’t disappoint. The requests from Singapore, Japan and Sydney were all responded to very quickly at below 195 ms, which is super quick.

Bangalore in particular, got their response in 99 ms, which is pretty impressive, considering the distance!

What we liked about Hostinger India is that it doesn’t matter if your customers are based in Asia, America or Europe; their servers produce pretty fast response times in most regions.

Hostinger customer support

“Fun” is not a word we’d usually use to describe a support team, but our experience with Hostinger’s support truly was fun! Their live chat widget is always on display on the bottom right of the dashboard, which makes connecting with someone very easy.

They also included the ability to send emojis, gifs, and files, which may sound useless but is actually very helpful in conveying our frustrations to the team.

They also serve over 20 countries in their native languages, with plans to add more, showing that they truly do care about communicating with their clients.

Our thoughts on Hostinger

Hostinger does not offer all the same benefits as their competitors here on this list (no free daily backup except with the Business plan) but they do deserve the #1 spot because of their attractive introductory prices and the fact that you’re able to host from their Singapore datacenter.

Why is this a winning combo? Because users can enjoy international-quality hosting at an affordable price… whilst hosting from a datacenter in the most well-connected spot in Asia! We’ve yet to find another host that can offer a better package to India websites.

Hostinger also competes well with the rest of the web hosts in terms of speed, features, and ease of use, but they also managed to one-up most of the competition by offering 1 free domain name with every new account.

We’ll also have access to Zyro, their outstanding website builder that’s specially designed to get your site up easily, fast and hassle free! You’ll definitely want to read more about it here.

This provides excellent value, especially for entrepreneurs and new online business owners that are concerned over cashflow. With such solid results, impressive response times and excellent support system, you really can’t go wrong when you host with Hostinger.

VISIT HOST

Coming up second is HostPapa, an independently-owned company based in Toronto.

They’ve been selling web hosting since 2005 but claim their top executives have 70+ years of combined experience in the industry.

That said, HostPapa only comes second on our list since it only has servers in the US, Canada and Europe. If only they had a server nearer to India!

As we’ve touched on, if your site is targeting audiences in Asia, the ideal scenario is to host from a datacenter based in Singapore. That’s because they’re a hub for subsea cables and can offer the best speeds and stability to the Asia region.

BUT, even so, we still think HostPapa is a great option for Indian websites. And our speed test results agree.

To investigate HostPapa for ourselves, we set up and hosted a grand total of 3 test websites.

We ran each site through the speed test tool and were really happy with the results! The best response time pinged from Bangalore was 115 ms. Even though this was hosted all the way from Amsterdam, it’s impressively fast for Indian audiences.

HostPapa’s worldwide average response time was 143 ms. That earns this host a solid A+ rank.

To sum it up, HostPapa’s servers respond quickly for ALL your site visitors – whether they’re based in India, or elsewhere on the planet.

HostPapa customer support

We’ve dealt with customer support from all the hosts listed here today, and HostPapa’s team didn’t let us down.

Their award-winning ‘PapaSquad’ were super efficient. We reached out to them many times when writing our review and they replied almost instantly every time.

Plus, you can request a free 30-minute 1-on-1 consultation on anything hosting-related. It’s a handy way to resolve any questions or doubts and is pretty cool – not many hosts bother with this.

Lastly, it’s always great when a host has a useful knowledge base. HostPapa’s is pretty extensive and full of helpful videos and tutorials. In all – very beginner friendly!

That said, HostPapa does lack localised Indian support as you’ll be chatting to their overseas team. If you prefer to speak to a customer service rep that shares a similar culture, you might prefer a host who offers localised support teams.

Our thoughts on HostPapa

In all, we think HostPapa offers great value for money. Its plans are really cheap, but you’re still getting a solid product.

Its Starter plan costs just ₹199 /mo (for a 3 year commitment) and even then you get a ton of value. You’ll get a free domain registration, free site migration, 100GB of disk space, ‘unlimited’ bandwidth, Cloudflare CDN, free SSL… the list goes on. For their Business plans, HostPapa sweetens the deal even more by throwing in more unlimited goodies.

In all, HostPapa offers awesome value, speed and support. Sure, we wish they had a datacenter in Singapore, and we’d like to see more speed enhancing software (e.g. caching tech). But at least we can see from our speed test that HostPapa is still very fast.

Using their Singaporean data center, pings from Singapore came in super quick at 6 ms, 67 ms for Japan while Bangalore scored a very respectable 163 ms. The response times for the rest of the world dipped into the hundreds, but they’re still faster than your average web host with a worldwide average of 173 ms.

A2 Hosting customer support

Now this is where we have a slight problem with A2 hosting – their live chat Gurus are actually good at what they do. It’s just that they can be a little difficult to reach. Once we got through to a Guru though, they managed to effortlessly solve our problems!

Our thoughts on A2 Hosting

Like HostPapa, A2 Hosting also offers free SSL for their customers, a feature that is easily implemented but isn’t done yet by most web hosts. Their NVMe SSDs combined with their Turbo servers make them a force to be reckoned with, and their A2 Optimized software makes setup a breeze. Customer support can be improved, but once you connect to them, they’re a solid web host with excellent features!

You’ve seen some pretty kick-ass web hosting services in this list so far, but GreenGeeks is a different sort of beast, in a save-the-world kind of way.

With solid data centers, a strong support team, cutting edge infrastructure, Git compatibility, and CloudFlare integration, Greengeeks is undoubtedly fast – but what makes them stand out is that they invest 3 times of every amp they use into renewable energy!

By hosting with them, you’re literally making the world a greener place.

GreenGeek’s worldwide average is a breathtaking 118.6 ms, they are ranked A+, faster than Google’s recommended response time and most hosts on this list!

However, their data centers are based only in the US, Canada and Amsterdam, so for Indian audiences, they’re okay but not the fastest, at 208 ms. Still very impressive speeds though!

GreenGeeks’ customer support

Admittedly, we haven’t had much experience with their support team, because everything went so smoothly during our test site setup, we barely needed to reach out to them at all.

When we did though, they answered quickly and skillfully. Thumbs up for the team!

Our thoughts on GreenGeeks

The planet-loving web hosting company is simply amazing. Not everyday do you come across a provider that spoils their customers with unlimited websites, unlimited transfers, free SSL, free domain and free CDN at their price point.

They make for an excellent choice, except for the fact that they don’t have any data centers in India.

Bluehost was formed in 2003 and quickly went on to becoming one the top web hosting brands in the market. They’re especially popular in India, but does their popularity equate quality? Let’s find out.

Bluehost’s data centers are based in the US, and they’ve got pretty good pings (below 200 ms) from most of the world with a worldwide average of 153 ms. One problem though – they could have done better in Bangalore, with a 330 ms score.

However, we’ve got to keep in mind that by building an online website, we’re expecting audiences from all over the world, not just India. In this aspect, Bluehost performs pretty damn well!

Bluehost customer support

We like using Bluehost, but getting in touch with their live team is like playing Russian Roulette – if you’re lucky, you’ll score and get an experienced staff that knows what they’re doing and is able to help you. If you’re unlucky, you get the trainee that’s of little to no help at all.

Our thoughts on Bluehost

Bluehost is actually a super popular choice among many bloggers and affiliate marketers because of their outstanding features, price and services. They’re fast all around the globe, but expect just average speeds if you’re only targeting Indian audiences. Customer support can be a little iffy, but hey, you can’t win ‘em all, right?

Our experience with GoDaddy India was equal parts “cool!” and “meh!”. For each thing that made us happy, they managed to create an equivalent problem that pissed us off. Let’s have a look at what we’re dealing with.

GoDaddy India server speed

One of the cool things we liked about GoDaddy India is their speed – They’re actually pretty fast!

Although they weren’t very transparent about the location of their datacenter (we clicked “Asia” but it never told us where in Asia the servers are located) it is obvious from the server speed test that it’s based in Singapore, with a whopping 10 ms.

Pings from Japan came next at 71 ms and then interestingly, Bangalore at a very speedy 111 ms. Needless to say, GoDaddy India is perfect if you’re targeting the local Indian demographic.

The web host did pretty well also in other parts of the world, only dropping to 337 ms all the way in Sao Paulo. Overall, GoDaddy India’s worldwide Average is 171.1 ms, and that’s good enough for an A+ ranking!

GoDaddy India customer support

Well, they’re good at what they do, fairly experienced and you’ll get connected pretty fast. Not as fast as Hostinger nor HostPapa, but they get the job done. Nothing to shout about – it just works.

Our thoughts on GoDaddy India

This is where we’ll start ranting a little bit.

GoDaddy would be the perfect web hosting for India if only they had some fine-tuned apps for WordPress, but we got a big bag of nothing. All of the other hosts offer some sort of convenience for users via apps, so to get nothing is a little disappointing.

Another thing we’re quite annoyed about is their UI – they’ve customized their own interface but we feel that they could have done a better job in making it more intuitive.

GoDaddy India hosting user interface

It took us 30 minutes just to find the right place to retrieve our DNS correctly, and navigating through the UI felt a little forced and unnatural.

If you’re looking to implement basic SSL for your websites, you’ll be disappointed to find that GoDaddy India has no free SSL. You can pay for it, but you’ll be bitter knowing that this is something you can easily get with other hosts for free.

Having said all that, we think GoDaddy India is actually good if you’re looking for no frills web hosting targeting India’s consumers at cheap pricing, but if you’re expecting top of the line features or anything extra, it’s best to look at other web hosts.

“A local brand with decent speeds in India at low prices.

VISIT HOST

BigRock! The myth, the brand, the legend!

We’ve heard a lot about them and they seem to be quite popular in India, so we decided to get an account with them for this list, just to see if they live up to expectations.

But before we get on to the praises/ rants, let’s have a look at the test results first.

BigRock server speed

US (W)US (E)LondonSingaporeSao Paulo

BangaloreSydneyJapanCanadaGermany
106 ms309 ms133 ms216 ms137 ms

Avg. Speed: 190.3 ms (See full result)

With a worldwide average of 190 ms, Bigrock is clearly the slowest web host on the list. Speed wise, they’re ideal for fast local pings as they’re the only web host on this list with a datacenter in Mumbai.

If you want to attract an international clientele though, BigRock might not be the best choice, with scores of 226 ms from US West, 241 ms from US East, 130 ms from London, 343 ms from Sao Paulo and 309 ms from Sydney.

The only countries we saw doing well outside of India was Singapore at 62 ms and Japan at 133ms.

BigRock customer support

We signed up for BigRock’s starter plan after seeing how popular they are with the locals in India, expecting decent service and ease of use but the experience we went through was… a huge disappointment.

First off, the system didn’t send us the required information to log into our account. No login info, no DNS to set up, absolutely nothing.

So we contacted their livechat for help but they can’t do anything about it without a login, so we were asked to call BigRock’s international support number (at our own cost, mind you) to sort this out.

So we called and followed the automated instructions, patiently pressing the keys we were told to press… then the call dropped.

So we tried again.

And the call dropped. Again.

We tried calling them a grand total of 3 times and the call drops at the exact. Same. Moment.

We consulted the live chat team to see what else can be done.

We asked them if they can transfer us directly to the relevant team – they cannot.

Can they cancel our account – they cannot.

This was quickly becoming the worst encounter we’ve ever experienced with a web host of this caliber.

At 5pm, we sent an email to the address that the livechat team kindly provided, and they replied at 6pm with the information we needed to finally login and set up our test site.

Needless to say, we weren’t too happy about the entire ordeal.

Our thoughts on BigRock

BigRock is cheap, but they really need to buck up. Speed wise, they’re doing okay despite the lack of PHP7 and SSD. They don’t haven’t yet implemented SSL so users might run into trouble in the near future when Chrome updates their system.

They definitely need to provide more features for their users, and their UI needs to be updated – it looks like they designed it in the 90s and fired their designer halfway through.

We can’t provide screenshots because we only managed to access the client area once during sign up – we’ve been locked out of it ever since, and the “forget password” feature just doesn’t work. We’ve tried it numerous times, nothing has ever appeared in our inbox or spam folders.

How To Pick A Good Web Host

Most people just want basic web hosting that works. However, there are huge differences in brands and it’s essential to pick a web host that suits your needs in order to have a successful online business.

There are a few things that a web host must have for us to consider them good – here are a few so you’ll know what to look out for.

1. Speed

If your web hosting is slow to respond, it could cost you thousands, maybe millions in lost potential sales. We want a fast web host that can at least match Google’s benchmark of 200ms! At Bitcatcha, we measure server speed and rank the web hosts from A+ to D.

2. Speed where your targeted audience is

You need to get web hosting that responds to requests from your targeted audience FAST, so be sure to pick a web host with good response times in your audience’s region. This is why Bitcatcha’s unique server speed checker shows you response times taken from 10 countries around the globe!

3. Price

We want to strike a nice balance between low prices and good web hosting. Pick a host that can provide you with the features you need at a price you’re comfortable paying!

4. Customer service

Complications can occur when you’re dealing with websites, and it’s nice to have a team of experts dedicated to helping you solve your problems. Be sure to pick a web host that has a good track record in customer support.

5. Uptime guarantee

Your site will be useless to you and your audience if it constantly goes down. We want to look for a web host that can least provide us with a 99.8% uptime guarantee

6. Security

If your web hosting has poor protection against malware and hacks, you’ll be leaving your website and data wide open for attacks. Pick a host that has a strong track record in security, malware and hacking protection.

7. Features

It’s always nice to get more than you paid for in terms of features. Some web hosting brands might provide more features but they might not be the fastest. Pick a web host that has a nice balance of essential features, speed, and price.

At A Glance: Top 3 Web Hosts For India

#1 Hostinger India

https://www.hostinger.in/

An excellent choice for those of us who are just starting out. You can host from Singapore and enjoy server response times of 99 ms in India, and they are pretty damn fast all around the world too! Their crazy low introductory price is simply too good to resist.

#2 HostPapa India

https://www.hostpapa.in/

A very affordable and value-packed host. Server response speed is great at 115ms pinged from Bangalore, and very little latency when pinged from around the world. We feel that it’s the perfect host for small to medium businesses in India.

#3 A2 Hosting

https://www.a2hosting.in/

Using their Singapore data center, A2 hosting’s worldwide average speed isn’t as fast as HostPapa but pings from Bangalore returned at a lighting quick 163 ms. We also love their convenient features!

Why Should You Trust Us?

Here at Bitcatcha.com, we’ve got decades worth of combined experience in networking and IT, and we’ve made it our mission to discover everything there is to know about web hosting.

We place utmost importance in web hosting speed because we know that speed can easily make or break a business. A web host needs to be able to respond to a request faster than you can snap your fingers (it takes 350 milliseconds to snap your fingers – a good web host needs to be able to respond in less than 200 milliseconds).

Why Speed Is So Important

When you bring your business online, you should know that you’re in competition with hundreds, possibly thousands of other web stores. You can expect the competition to offer the exact same service or product as you, at the exact same price point or even lower.

What can you do to get an advantage over the competition?

Website speed.

According to thinkwithgoogle, websites should be fully loaded in under 1 second these days. With good reason too, because sites that take 1-3 seconds to load have a bounce rate 32%.

32% of users will bounce if page load time takes up to 3 seconds

Site load speed is also highly important in getting ranked on Google, as core web vitals start playing a bigger role in their ranking criteria.

In short, web vitals are measured using 3 metrics: Visual stability, Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and First Input Delay (FID). Out of these 3 metrics, the latter two are highly dependent on loading speed!

core web vitals

One of the best ways to achieve quicker loading speed is to pick the right web hosting provider.

People can get unreasonably demanding online, and a good web hosting provider will be able to respond to requests almost instantaneously, providing your site with speed and resources it needs to meet those demands.

In other words, speed is essential for the success of your website. Pick the right web hosting provider, and your site will load faster. The quicker it loads, the more you’ll be able to sell and it’ll be easier getting ranked on Google!

Understanding Bitcatcha’s Speed Ratings

Worldwide speed rating

We used our very own server speed checker to test for response times from 10 different locations across the world. We then average out those results and rank them according to their performances. Providers with speeds below 180ms gets an A+ ranking!

Speed in India

We measure the response times from Bangalore specifically. This tells us how fast a particular web host is for Indian audiences.

Should You Pick Local Or Go Global?

So your web store or business is focused in India. What are your hosting options?

  1. You can get a web host that’s based in India
It’s ideal for you and your audience might enjoy faster speeds. You might also prefer the localised customer support team.
  2. You can get a global brand that covers India
With global brands usually comes better global speeds (perfect if you’re targeting a global audience). You should also experience better security and overall service.

Ultimately we recommend a global host that covers India for better customer support and facilities.

Verdict: Which Is The Best Web Hosting For India?

After intensive testing and experiencing the pros and cons of each brand, we personally feel that the International web hosts (Hostinger, HostPapa, A2 Hosting) are your best bet.

They are consistently fast with a reputation of being reliable, and their customer support will help you in any way they can.

Bluehost falls right smack in the middle – they’re very well balanced and you’ll get better value if you’re looking to reach US markets. A very good web host for newbie bloggers and affiliate marketers!

However, if price is your priority then BigRock and GoDaddy India will suit your needs just fine, especially if you’re targeting the local Indian demographic. They’ve got very fast local pings, but you’ll be giving up features and helpful customer support.

To us, poor customer support is a deal-breaker, but if that’s not a problem for you, then go right ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I host a website for free?

Yes. There are plenty of free web hosting services around that you can utilize for your website. However, they come with performance restrictions, handicaps, and ads displayed on your website (which you have no control over). If you’re looking to actually build traffic and generate revenue through your site, we would strongly advise against going for these free services.

2. How much does web hosting cost?

Shared web hosting costs an average of ₹700 to ₹14,000 per year – excluding domain and SSL. Domains would typically cost you ₹99 – ₹6,059 a year, while SSL can cost anything from as little as ₹1,425 up to ₹4,185 per annum. These can build up to cost quite a bit, so we highly recommend a web hosting service that offers both domain AND SSL for free, like Hostinger.

3. What is the cheapest and best web hosting service?

Hostinger is the best web hosting you can get at a budget. At only ₹119 a month (with their 48-mo plan), you’ll enjoy a free domain and SSL, unlimited bandwidth, 20GB SSD – more than enough for small or personal websites.

4. What kind of hosting is best for my website?

Figure out the purpose of your website, and find out which kind of web hosting would be best to fulfil that purpose. Generally, for small business or personal sites, shared web hosting should be enough to cover all the bases. If it’s for a large to medium website, best not cheap out – go for something that provides you with more resources like VPS hosting.

5. What is the best web hosting for small business websites?

All web hosting brands featured in this article are great for small business websites. Do note that if your site experiences fast growth with an immense increase in traffic, you’ll need more resources and reliability to keep your business up and running. Consider upgrading to cloud hosting from Hostinger for more speed and reliability.

6. Which is the best web hosting for the UK?

SiteGround UK would be our web hosting provider of choice for the UK. They’ve got a UK datacenter, terrific speeds, excellent and are great for all website needs.

7. Which is better, Bluehost or GoDaddy?

If you’re building a WordPress site targeting the USA, Bluehost would be the preferred web hosting choice. If it’s a non-WordPress site with a global audience, it’s better to pick GoDaddy. Note that Hostinger would be a great choice for both, with their LiteSpeed Cache plugin (which speeds up WordPress) and their wide data center coverage.
